Where We Coat Cars, Suburb By Suburb

Salt, sap, bore water and freeway grit — Melbourne attacks paint differently depending on where you park.

Melbourne is not one environment

People talk about "Melbourne conditions" as though the city is uniform. It is not. A car that lives two streets back from Port Phillip in Brighton is dealing with salt aerosol carried in on the onshore breeze. A car parked under a London plane on a Richmond street is dealing with aphid honeydew that goes hard and etches in the afternoon sun. A car in a Werribee driveway hit by garden sprinklers on bore-influenced water is dealing with mineral spotting that neither of the other two ever sees.

Those are three different maintenance problems sitting under the same product. Knowing which one you have changes what we recommend and how often you will need to wash.

The suburbs we write about

Each of these pages covers the local council, the streets and housing stock, and the specific things that land on paint there.

What stays the same everywhere

Whichever suburb your car lives in, the process does not change. Paint is decontaminated, inspected under proper light, corrected as far as it needs and no further, then coated. What changes between suburbs is the contamination we find on arrival and the advice we give you about maintenance after.

Three constants across the whole metro area are worth stating. Melbourne summer UV is severe enough to fade unprotected dark paint within a few years. Melbourne hail is real and no coating or film prevents a dent. And Melbourne's habit of going from 34 degrees to a 17-degree southerly squall in an afternoon means cars get hot, then wet, then dusty, repeatedly — which is exactly the cycle that bakes contamination onto a bare clear coat.

Which service do you need?

If the paint looks flat or swirled, start with paint correction. If it looks fine and you want it to stay that way, a ceramic coating is the answer. If your bonnet is stippled with chips from freeway kilometres, only paint protection film will help. The services overview lays out how they combine, and the cost guide explains pricing before you get in touch.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge extra for travel to outer suburbs?

Travel is factored into the quote rather than charged as a separate line, and for most of greater Melbourne it makes no practical difference. Beyond the outer growth corridors it can, so ring and confirm before you plan around a price. The boundary is about travel time and how far a car has to be moved, not about postcodes.

My suburb is not listed. Do you still cover it?

Probably. The suburbs with their own pages are the ones where local conditions are distinct enough to be worth writing about. We cover the metropolitan area broadly, including suburbs with no page here. Call and tell us where the car is and what you want done and we will tell you straight away whether it is workable.

Does where I park really change what coating I need?

It changes the maintenance more than the product. A car garaged in the inner east and a car parked under plane trees on a Richmond street can take the same coating, but the street car needs more frequent washing and faster removal of sap and droppings. Where you park mostly determines how long the coating keeps performing.
