Why Doncaster is hard on paint
Doncaster sits in the City of Manningham on high ground north-east of the city, and the topography is the story. Does ceramic coating stop paint fading in the sun?
It slows it considerably. UV degradation happens in the clear coat and then in the pigment beneath it, and a coating absorbs and blocks a meaningful share of that radiation before it gets there. It is not a total block and it is not permanent, which is why a coating that has done four Melbourne summers benefits from being refreshed rather than assumed to be still working.
Why does my red car look pink on the roof and bonnet only?
Because those are the horizontal panels and they take several times the UV dose that a door does. Red and some organic-pigment blacks are the most vulnerable. Once the pigment itself has faded, no coating and no polish brings it back; polishing only restores the clear coat above it. Protecting horizontals early is the whole game.
Is a carport enough, or do I need a full garage?
A carport helps a great deal because it removes direct overhead sun from the roof and bonnet, which is where most UV damage happens. It does not stop reflected UV, wind-blown dust or bird droppings from birds roosting in the structure. A carport plus a coating is a genuinely good combination for a Doncaster block.
