The Wyndham environment
Werribee sits in the City of Wyndham on the volcanic basalt plains west of Melbourne, and everything about the local paint problem follows from that geography. The plains are flat, open and windy. The newer estates spreading out around the suburb have young street trees that provide almost no canopy, so cars sit fully exposed. And the westerly winds that come across the plains carry fine soil and agricultural dust from the paddocks and the Werribee South market gardens.
The defining issue, though, is water. Melbourne's mains supply from the eastern catchments is notably soft, but this side of the city is supplied differently and the water is harder. A great many Wyndham properties also run bore water for irrigation, which is harder again. Sprinkler overspray lands on a car parked in a driveway, the sun evaporates it within the hour, and the dissolved minerals stay behind as a ring. On a panel that has been sitting in summer sun, those rings can etch into the clear coat rather than just sitting on it.
The third factor is the sun itself. With no canopy and no hills, Werribee driveways get uninterrupted exposure through the hottest part of the day — the same UV problem described on the Doncaster page, without even the partial shade of mature gardens.
Down at Werribee South the picture changes again, with saltmarsh and coastal exposure along the bay adding chloride to the mix in the way Brighton cars experience it.
What actually helps
A ceramic coating helps with water spotting in a specific, mechanical way: it makes the surface strongly hydrophobic, so most water sheets off the panel rather than sitting on it as droplets. Less water left on the paint means less dissolved mineral left behind when it evaporates. It also gives any spots that do form something hard to sit on, so they wipe away instead of etching.
It does not make the car spot-proof. If you let bore water dry on a black bonnet at 38 degrees repeatedly, you will eventually get marks even on a coating. The honest advice is: coat the car, and also move the sprinklers.
Because the dust load out here is high and abrasive, existing marring is common, so most Werribee jobs start with paint correction. Interior work is worth considering too — the dash cracking problem covered on the interior protection page is at its worst in treeless estates.

The water goes, the dissolved calcium and magnesium stay, and on a surface above about 40 degrees they can etch a ring into clear coat within hours. Fresh spots wash off. Etched ones need machine polishing to remove, which is why prevention matters here.
Is Werribee water harder than the rest of Melbourne?
Melbourne's eastern catchment supply is unusually soft, and the western suburbs are supplied differently, so water in this part of the city is generally harder than what an eastern suburbs car gets. How do I stop water spots when I wash at home?
Wash early morning or late afternoon, never on a hot panel in full sun. Work one section at a time and dry it immediately with a clean waffle-weave towel or a filtered blower rather than letting it air dry. On a coated car sheeting is far stronger, so most water leaves on its own and there is much less left behind to deposit.
